The Faculty of Computer Science and Design at Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma (UNSURYA) officially kicked off its Data Science workshop series on August 29, 2025. Conducted online, the event was opened by the Faculty Dean, Dr. Yohannes Dewanto, and attended by students from the Information Systems and Informatics Management study programs. Dr. Adi Wijaya, M.Kom., served as the main speaker, guiding the session with enthusiasm, fully supported by the Head of the Information Systems and Informatics Management Study Program, Muryan Awaludin, S.Kom., M.Kom.
In his presentation titled “Intro to Data Science,” Dr. Adi Wijaya introduced the concept of Big Data through its four main pillars: Volume, Velocity, Variety, and Value. Participants were invited to understand various aspects of the data science ecosystem, ranging from Data Engineering and Data Exploration to Data Mining and Data Visualization. The material presented was not only theoretical but also covered practical applications such as Cloud Technology, Statistics, and various analytical techniques that form the foundation for professional data scientists and data analysts.
A key point emphasized was the lifecycle of developing a data science model, starting from reading training data, pre-processing, modeling, to application on testing data. Dr. Adi highlighted that the resulting model can be stored for reuse without needing repeated training. However, if improved performance is desired, re-training with more data can be conducted to achieve optimal results. This concept provided a deep understanding of how the workflow in data science projects operates in the industry.
This workshop was designed not only to enrich technical knowledge but also to ensure that student research can be more comprehensive and aligned with the graduate profiles of Data Scientist and Data Analyst. With a solid understanding of various data science aspects, students are expected to integrate analytical approaches into their research. Through this initiative, the Faculty of Computer Science and Design at UNSURYA demonstrates its commitment to preparing the younger generation not only to face digital era challenges but also to become innovators in the world of data and analytics.
