PKM of the Information Systems and Informatics Management Program: “Android-Based Game Applications at SMK Pembangunan Jaya YAKAPI Jakarta”

Mobile-Based Technology has advanced significantly and is widely used across IT, business, education, and learning media, from schools to universities. This is evident in the large number of mobile-based devices and applications, with Android being the most commonly used operating system. Android offers user-friendly and convenient features, making it an attractive platform for many software houses, developers, and programmers to create Android-based mobile applications.

Vocational High Schools (SMK) are institutions with a specific vision: to equip their graduates with the skills needed to compete directly in the business and industrial sectors. Therefore, introducing Android-based mobile technology is essential, especially for students in the software engineering program. However, the school has expressed concerns over the lack of qualified resources to support their students in mastering Android-based application development.
Introducing Android-based mobile application development can begin at a basic level, such as game application development.

One of the recommended tools for creating Android-based game applications is Construct 2. Construct 2 is an HTML5-based 2D game development tool created by Scirra. It does not require any specific programming language, as all commands in the game are managed through an Event Sheet consisting of Events and Actions. Construct 2 is packaged in a visual format that is user-friendly, making it ideal for beginners who have never learned programming. This simplicity makes Construct 2 a perfect choice for vocational high school students to learn mobile game application development.

The Community Service Program (PKM) conducted by lecturers from the Information Systems Department at Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma (Unsurya) at SMK Pembangunan Jaya YAKAPI carried the theme:
“Training on Developing Android-Based Game Applications.”
The goal of the program was to enhance both students’ and teachers’ skills, particularly in computer science and the development of Android-based mobile applications. It is hoped that these skills will broaden students’ opportunities in the industrial world or enable them to become entrepreneurs by developing mobile applications needed by society today.

The training was held over four weeks in the computer lab at SMK Pembangunan Jaya YAKAPI and was attended by 28 twelfth-grade students. The activity ran smoothly, and the students showed great enthusiasm throughout the training. The result of the training was a browser-run game application that could be exported as an .apk file, which could then be installed on students’ Android smartphones.
