Iftar Gathering with the Extended Family of the Informatics Student Association (HIMI)

Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma (Unsurya), April 14, 2023 – Iftar, or breaking the fast together, is a tradition frequently observed by Indonesians during the month of Ramadan. Therefore, the Informatics Student Association (HIMI) under the Faculty of Information Technology at Unsurya had the opportunity to hold an iftar gathering and Ramadan study session with the theme “Exemplary Noble Character Through the Beauty of Sharing in the Holy Month.” The event was held at the Hercules Hall, Campus A, Unsurya. Present at the event were the Head of the Information Systems and Informatics Management Study Programs, lecturers, alumni, and HIMI students. The purpose of this event was to foster fellowship across student cohorts as well as between students and lecturers.

On this occasion, the Head of the Information Systems and Informatics Management Study Programs, Muryan Awaludin, S.Kom., M.Kom., expressed his great pleasure at the successful organization of the event. He also urged students to maintain such events, as they not only strengthen the bonds of friendship but also foster a sense of family among the academic community on campus. He conveyed his appreciation to the committee members who voluntarily organized the event—from sending invitations and collecting funds to ensuring the event ran smoothly. He hopes that following this event, even larger events will be held in the future.

While waiting for the Maghrib call to prayer, the event was filled with a recitation of the Quran (Tilawah) by Mr. Chandra JJ and Ms. Rismawati Anjani, followed by a religious lecture (tausiah) delivered by Ustad Apip Apipudin with the theme: “The Importance of the Rewards of Fasting in Ramadan”. The rewards of fasting during Ramadan are highly sought after when this month arrives. Ramadan is a month full of blessings. During this month, Muslims compete to do good deeds in order to earn the multiplied rewards of fasting. Indeed, the rewards of fasting in Ramadan are greatly multiplied. Ramadan holds special virtues that no other month has. During Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting and perform other acts of worship that increase the rewards of fasting. Fasting in Ramadan is an obligatory act for Muslims who have reached the age of puberty. Fasting involves abstaining from hunger, thirst, and desires from dawn until sunset. The essence of fasting is the effort to control desires and various worldly temptations. The rewards of fasting in Ramadan are truly remarkable for those who observe it.

Every good deed performed by a person is rewarded with ten times its value, up to seven hundred times. Allah Ta’ala says:
“Except for fasting; it is for Me, and I shall reward it. Because he has left his desires and food for My sake. The fasting person will have two moments of happiness: when he breaks his fast and when he meets his Lord. Truly, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasing to Allah than the scent of musk.” (Hadith narrated by Bukhari no. 1904, 5927 and Muslim no. 1151)

The meaning of this hadith is that the Prophet Muhammad said every good deed will be rewarded tenfold, even up to seven hundred times. However, fasting is different. The reward for fasting is not multiplied in the usual way; rather, Allah multiplies the reward for the fasting person infinitely. This is because, in fasting, a person strives to leave all desires for the sake of Allah alone. The reward for fasting in Ramadan is even greater because Ramadan is the most blessed month. Additionally, fasting during Ramadan is an obligatory act ordained by Allah. Therefore, anyone who fasts during Ramadan will receive abundant rewards.

“With good cooperation between the committee and the participants, as well as the enthusiasm of the participants in attending the event, the event ran smoothly without any significant problems. The event also taught us the importance of togetherness, cooperation, and mutual respect among people,” said Intan Permata Zara, the Secretary General of HIMSIF. As the closing of the event, participants took a group photo and concluded with Taraweeh prayers together at the Mushola of Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma.
